The Bottom Line

The ECCO Biom C4 is widely regarded as one of the most comfortable spikeless golf shoes on the market. Across 600+ reviews from Amazon, Zappos, Reddit, GolfWRX, and major golf publications, the consensus is clear: if comfort is your priority and you don't mind paying a premium, the Biom C4 delivers. However, it's not without flaws โ€” durability concerns, cleaning difficulties, and confusing sizing hold it back from perfection.

What People Love

Unmatched Out-of-Box Comfort (~82% of reviewers mention this)

The single most consistent theme across every source is comfort. It's not even close. Reviewer after reviewer describes these as the most comfortable golf shoes they've ever worn, with zero break-in period required.

"It legit feels like I have pillows on my feet when walking the course in the C4s." โ€” Breaking Eighty

"These are probably the most comfortable golf shoes I've ever worn... I feel they're like playing golf in your most comfortable slippers." โ€” Steve, Zappos

"This is hands down the best feeling golf shoe I have ever worn. There is no break-in period; they are comfortable from the first moment they are worn." โ€” Bill, Zappos

"They were so incredibly comfortable like walking on a cloud." โ€” Reddit r/GolfGear

The ECCO FLUIDFORM Direct Comfort Technology creates a balance of cushioning and rebound that golfers consistently describe as exceptional. The stretchy mesh sock liner adds to the comfort and makes the shoes easy to put on and take off. Multiple reviewers specifically note that they can walk 36 holes without any discomfort โ€” a remarkable claim that multiple sources independently verify.

Gore-Tex Waterproofing That Actually Works (~45% mention)

ECCO pairs the Biom C4 with GORE-TEX SURROUND technology, and reviewers consistently report that it delivers genuine waterproof protection despite the shoe's breathable, vented design.

"Played in pouring rain and my feet stayed completely dry. The Gore-Tex surround really works." โ€” Amazon reviewer

"Very comfortable right out of the box. Expensive, but worth it, and only Ecco provides a 3-year waterproof guarantee." โ€” Zappos reviewer

Golf Monthly tested them "on a typically damp UK afternoon in February" with extended time in the rough and reported no leakage. Today's Golfer took them on a trip to Scotland across varied weather conditions and was "not disappointed."

Excellent Spikeless Traction (~40% mention)

The MTN Grip outsole with its three-zone design (heel stability, midfoot penetration, forefoot rotational support) gets strong marks from both expert reviewers and everyday golfers.

"At no point during my 18 holes of golf did I feel like I was going to slip." โ€” Golfalot

"I have yet to slip once in these, the sole does a great job of inspiring confidence both walking the course and during your golf swing." โ€” Breaking Eighty

Multiple reviewers who converted from spiked shoes were surprised by how competitive the traction felt.

Breathability (~35% mention)

The ECCO Exhaust Grid โ€” large angled openings in the midsole that scoop air toward the sole โ€” is a genuine differentiator. Golf Monthly called it "the most breathable shoe we've tested in 2022 by some stretch." For golfers in warm climates, this is a significant selling point.

Versatile Style (~30% mention)

The sneaker-style aesthetic allows the Biom C4 to transition seamlessly from course to clubhouse to casual wear. Multiple reviewers mention wearing them off the course, to restaurants, and while traveling.

"I actually wear them when I'm not golfing." โ€” Zappos reviewer

"The BIOM C4 will look great in shorts or pants, and pretty much any occasion." โ€” Driving Range Heroes

What People Don't Love

Cleaning Nightmare (~20% of reviewers)

The most consistent complaint across sources is that the Biom C4 is very difficult to keep clean, especially in white colorways. The exhaust grid holes collect grass and mud, the mesh sock liner stains easily, and the white sole discolors.

"The toe section of the shoe is very tricky to clean and the material used can be prone to staining." โ€” Golf Monthly

"The mesh lining got dirty quite quickly and could be difficult to clean, whilst the upper itself tended to collect more mud and debris than a typical shoe." โ€” Golfalot

"The white version is beautiful out of the box but impossible to keep clean." โ€” Amazon reviewer

Pro tip from reviewers: Get the black or grey colorway if you want them to look good long-term.

Sole Yellowing (~12% mention)

A well-documented issue: the clear/translucent sole on white models turns yellow within 6-12 months.

"Love these golf shoes, but not thrilled with the white soles that have turned yellow after less than a year of use. Hate to give up the comfort of the shoes, but will not be purchasing another pair for $250 until I hear 'sole yellowing' issue has been rectified." โ€” Bill, Zappos

Durability Concerns (~10% mention)

While many long-term owners report excellent durability, a troubling minority have experienced sole separation, ripped midsoles, and material failure sometimes within just a few months of use.

"I only wore it for 5 times and this happened today during my range session." โ€” Reddit user (sole separation after 5 wears)

"Mine actually ripped this weekend... Where the sole meets the cloth of the shoe on the side." โ€” Reddit user

"Loved the comfort but the sole started separating from the upper after about 3 months of regular use. For $250, I expected much better durability." โ€” Amazon reviewer

ECCO's warranty process has received mixed reviews, with some customers reporting denied claims.

Confusing Sizing (~15% mention)

ECCO uses European sizing, and the Biom C4 runs notably large. This is a consistent frustration.

"I wear 10.5 in adidas golf shoes but 9/9.5 in the Biom C4." โ€” Zappos reviewer

"These shoes definitely run a little large... I would recommend ordering multiple sizes." โ€” Steve, Zappos

Not for Flat or Narrow Feet (~8% mention)

"I found the instep far too high for my flat feet despite them feeling comfortable in the shop." โ€” Reddit user

"If you have narrow feet, avoid these. Even with the insole in, my foot slides around." โ€” Amazon reviewer

Mud Performance (~7% mention)

The exhaust grid holes that provide breathability become a liability in muddy conditions. They fill with mud and are extremely difficult to clean out.

Premium Price (~15% mention)

At $249 MSRP, the Biom C4 is one of the more expensive spikeless golf shoes on the market. While many feel it's justified, others struggle with the price-to-value equation.

"Good shoe, hard to justify the price... shoes half the price perform similarly." โ€” Amazon reviewer

Comparison to Competitors

vs. FootJoy Pro/SL: The FJ Pro/SL is the other major premium spikeless shoe. The Biom C4 is generally considered more comfortable, while the FJ is seen as more durable and easier to clean. The FJ also comes in standard US sizing.

vs. Adidas Tour360: The Tour360 offers more aggressive traction but is heavier. The Biom C4 wins on comfort and breathability. The Tour360 is better value at a lower price point.

vs. ECCO Biom H4: The H4 is the sibling model โ€” slightly more durable and traditional looking but less breathable. The C4 has the edge in comfort and modern aesthetics.

vs. ECCO S-Three: The S-Three is less expensive and has many fans. GolfWRX users report the C4 "felt better" in direct comparisons, but the S-Three is a solid budget-friendly ECCO alternative.

vs. G/FORE shoes: Breaking Eighty compared directly: "The Ecco is a little bit more comfortable, and has slightly better traction. The G/Fore is more durable, I like the looks better, and easier to clean."

Who Should Buy the ECCO Biom C4

  • Walkers: If you regularly walk 18+ holes, this is one of the best shoes you can buy. The all-day comfort is unmatched.
  • Hot climate golfers: The Exhaust Grid breathability is a genuine advantage in warm weather.
  • Travelers: The versatile styling means one pair works for the course, dinner, and everything in between.
  • Those with slightly wide feet: The fit works well for moderately wide feet, and the removable insole provides extra room.
  • Anyone who prioritizes comfort above all else.
  • Who Should Look Elsewhere

  • Muddy course players: The exhaust grid becomes a mud trap. Consider spiked shoes or the ECCO Biom G5.
  • Narrow-footed golfers: No narrow option; the shoe will feel sloppy.
  • Flat feet: The high instep is a reported issue.
  • Clean freaks: Especially with white models โ€” these get dirty fast and are hard to clean.
  • Budget shoppers: At $249, there are comparable performing shoes for less. Wait for sales โ€” the C4 regularly drops to $130-$180.
  • Those needing max durability: While many report long-term durability, the minority reports of early failure are concerning at this price point.

  • Price Context

  • MSRP: $249.00
  • Typical sale price: $150-$199
  • Best deals found: $130 (clearance/seasonal sales)
  • BOA version: ~$279
  • The Biom C4 frequently goes on sale at Amazon, Golf Galaxy, Carl's Golfland, and other retailers. Patient shoppers can often find them for $150 or less, which dramatically improves the value proposition.

    Final Verdict

The ECCO Biom C4 earns its reputation as one of the most comfortable golf shoes available. With 82% of reviewers highlighting comfort as the standout feature, genuine GORE-TEX waterproofing, excellent spikeless traction, and class-leading breathability, it's a premium shoe that largely delivers on its premium price.

The concerns โ€” cleaning difficulty, sole yellowing, occasional durability issues, and quirky sizing โ€” are real but don't outweigh the positives for most golfers. If comfort is your top priority and you're willing to invest, the Biom C4 is an outstanding choice. Just size down, skip the white colorway, and keep a wet rag handy.

Score: 8.8/10 โ€” One of the best spikeless golf shoes money can buy, with a few notable caveats that keep it from perfection.

The ECCO Biom C4 was the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn. Walked 18 holes out of the box with no issues.

My husband wears this brand and said that these are the most comfortable golf shoes he's worn. Great looking, lightweight and very comfortable!

    ZapposSteveโญโญโญโญโญpositive

These shoes definitely run a little large. I'm a 9.5. I ordered Ecco size 9-9.5 and there's still plenty of length left. I feel these shoes may even fit a size 10. If you are a true size 9 I can almost guarantee the 9-9.5 would be too big for you. I would recommend ordering multiple sizes from Zappos so you can send back what doesn't fit. I have no idea why Ecco sizes them this way. With that said these are probably the most comfortable golf shoes I've ever worn. They're obviously expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. Some reviews state they're like walking on a cloud but I feel they're like playing golf in your most comfortable slippers. If you get the right fit these shoes are worth it, especially if you walk the course.

Golf shoes are very comfortable. Nice color and style. I wear a ladies size 12 which are very hard to find in golf shoes. These shoes are slightly narrower than most men's shoes so they fit perfect.

I wear Ecco spiked shoes & they are comfortable. All the spikeless Eccos I have tried feel like there is a rod running widthwise through the shoe and that I am stepping on it. I've tried them all and they are consistently uncomfortable. I'll stick with the spiked version.

Does anyone have the Ecco Biom C4 golf shoes? How do you like them? If the course is muddy do the slits in the sole fill up with mud?

This shoe is too wide for my fit. It also looks clunky and the leather isn't as soft as my other ECCO shoes. The leather looks like a man made product. I would appreciate the option of narrow, but most manufacturers don't offer it.
