Hope this helps anyone who may be interested in going because it was probably the best golfing trip I've ever had. \n\n  \nFirst stop is Kingsbarns, just outside of St. Andrews.  This was right after the Alfred Dunhill classic had wrapped, so pin positions were brutal.  If you go to Scotland, you have to play this course.  Cost was around $400USD, and a caddie is absolutely the right move. Down 1 after 1 and in an ugly way. \n\nSecond hole — I piped one down the fairway. My club champion opponent hit a long slice into the adjacent fairway. He hit his approach into a sand and I put mine on the front of the green. I’m feeling good — until he hits his sand shot to four inches. Turns out he’s got a pretty complete game so we split. \n\nWe split three, he wins four. Down two through four. \n\nOn five, he goes long on a tough green (par 3, 190 yards). I ended up just short, and get up and down for par. He three putts for bogey and I win a hole. The difference that clubs make is tiny at beginner level, even for low-handicappers the difference it makes isn't great. And everyone told me that moving away from 40 year old irons to new technology would do wonders for my game.\n\nI ended up being fit to a set of Ping i530s orange dot with standard length shaft, plus an orange dot s159 54 degree W grind wedge and a 60 degree E grind wedge (because I’m obsessed with my eye 2 lob wedge).\n\nI’m a pretty tall guy - 6’1.5” barefoot probably 6’2” with shoes, wrist to floor is around 34.5 I think. According to the Ping color chart, orange dot would be for someone much shorter, but the fitter told me the chart is BS.\n\nThe fitting was a form fit, where I hit 3 clubs of each variation for about 10 variables and this is what they came up with.  No data, no print out, none of that.\n\nSo I’m not sure.  I feel like I have a hard time getting under the ball with these, like I’m topping it and they are too short. You’re taking the backswing super quick and only doing a half swing - 3/4 swing.  Then you rush down with speed trying to hit the ball as fast as you can and that’ll lead to all sorts of inconsistent hitting.  \n\nSo 1. Fix your grip. And 2. Slow down in your backswing and make a full swing to the top.  Add a good rhythm and pause at the top during transition.  Then weight shift and power through in the downswing. Secondarily, the Callaway Edge is a very lightweight design for the beginning golfer; which is nice when it comes to being user friendly for the newer golfer. However, the double edged sword is that the lighter weight designs tend to be a little more susceptible damage and don’t have the same feasibility as the heavier designs. \n\nSevere toe strikes / impacts can damage most clubs, especially a very light weight club. The toe is not meant to absorb that type of impact, and Ive the very same issue plenty of times (Im a 10+ year club fitter) so, you’re not alone. Either cracked crowns or indentations on the toe end of the face. Your best course of action is to contact callaway customer service and explain the situation. Instead of Costco, I called Callaway here in Canada and they sent me a new Regular Flex Edge Driver. It didn't seem to me like they would send me anything else. I decided to keep it in the package and purchased a Kirkland Signature Adjustable driver for pretty cheap here in Canada.\n\nI purchased a stiff flex as my swing speed as gone up over the last few months to around 103mph. I seem to be hitting this club way farther and more accurately than the edge driver in regular flex. In conclusion, they will likely send you the same driver so you might want to consider selling it and getting something else. Also depends on how you were hitting the edge, I was slicing it a lot and now seem to be either straight or a hook with my new stiff flex driver. Your grip needs to be overhauled. Your lead hand really should be stronger but it largely a player preference choice. Your trail hand is not a preference. \n\nLook at your RH the trail hand, your palm is actually underneath the club, where in a better grip it’s actually placed on the trail side of the club, and your right thumb and index finger pinching the club on top of the grip. You want to see at least 2 knuckles on your RH. \n\nOk, but that’s not why you are shanking it. There are three causes for the shanks.\n\nThe first is when the weight goes out on your toes. I can’t tell from this head on view, we need a down the line to be certain. Just make sure your weight is balanced on each foot from the heel to the ball of your foot. \n\nThe second way to reliably shank, well you are too close to the ball. Your mind and body will force to swing on an unfair swing plane to create hand and arm space. This is subconscious sometimes but momentum can also do this. \n\nThe last way is like hitting a cut spin wedge from out to in.
