If you had the Moccamaster with the ROUND base with the 3 setting basket switch, it would be interesting to try and place the Bonavita basket on the Moccamaster Round base and see what the results would be. I also purchased the Flat bottomed basket and showerhead cover and One hole showerhead that comes with the Moccamaster Grand coffee maker to compare. (The Grand is a 16 cup brewer ) with a Flat Bottomed basket like the Bonavita you sampled. However, even though the basket fits on the round base, the placement is not perfect as the basket is a bit too wide on the top. Purchasing the Moccamaster cone filter 3 setting basket and cover and 9 hole showerhead will fit better with the Moccamaster Grand. The Grand is a larger capacity brewer and what appears to be designed only for large full batches. (16 cup) I was able to modify one side of the flat bottomed basket and showerhead lid to better fit the flat bottomed filter basket. Flat baskets tend to deliver a slightly less strong brew. Your choice of filter materials is a big contributor to one cup tasting sweeter mainly because unbleached/brown filters tend to impart a sweeter somewhat woodier taste to the same coffee bean/roast compared to brewing through an oxygen bleached filter. Then there's the cone vs flower filter shape influencing brew time. Think of fine spirits aged in barrels to harvest those distinctive notes of the media it contacts. I'll add that I'm currently having issues with one manufacturer's (the one starting with M) filter inconsistency in my MocaMaster KBGT. Same bag of beans, same grind setting on my Preciso. Huge impact on brew time. I'm getting into the research of filtering coffee! I like the Connoisseur a lot, for me the only weak point is the carafe. My one complaint would be that the lip inside the carafe is too wide and I can not pour all the coffee out of the carafe. Since I usually brew 1000 ml, 6 cup line, I substituted the Connoisseur carafe for a French press glass. The glass sits just underneath the filter holder, and when coffee is finished brewing I pour my cup and the remainder goes into my regular thermos. Other than the carafe I think that this is the best coffee maker I've owned. Pre infusion works each and every time and works well. Have tried to keep clean and regularly descaled and using water filter pitcher that replaces magnesium for calcium ions supposedly. My problem has been with the 14 year old carafe. When pouring the Coffee from spout coffee has gotten into lid which has left rancid yucky odor from lid even though we’ve soaked and rinsed in coffee stain cleaners. Has anyone else had this problem? I cannot purchase a new lid and the company recommends purchasing an entire new carafe. I’m afraid it might not fit my machine.
